Guest Bedroom Makeover

How long should one live in a house without a proper guest room? Four years? Perfect. I’m right on track then. Until a few months ago, our “guest room” looked like this. ***Caution: Perfectly-styled, magazine-quality images below. Prepare your eyeballs :)   Don’t those pictures make you just want to come over and hang out? […]

Copper & Leather Rug Wall Hanging

Also known as “You put a rug….on the wall?” (said in the style of “You have a baby….in a bar?” a la Sweet Home Alabama). That’s exactly what Jacob said when he got home and saw it on the wall…“It’s a rug. On the wall.” To back up a little, I had purchased this leather […]

Let’s talk funerals…

First Disclaimer: Please excuse the interruption from the crafty goodness that normally lives here. I want to talk about something a lot less fun. Calm down. I can see your excitement through the screen. I promise it gets better towards the end. Second Disclaimer: I’m not trying to make light of funerals or death. It’s […]

  • Heather - This made me cry!!!

I sign the petition with you. I hope I’m able to attend your funeral, and if not, please make sure you’re in charge of my arrangements! Haha! I love your outlook on life and death. You’re such an amazing spirit, Nikki. Thank you for sharing these party details with us. We will celebrate your life just how you wish! I love you so much!ReplyCancel

    • Nikki - Thanks Heather! I hope neither of us have to attend the other’s funeral, but if we do, it can at least be fun! I love you too:)ReplyCancel

  • Eliesa @ Pinterest Addict - Just recently started following you on instagram, and this is the first post I’ve read of yours, and I have to say that I love it. I tell my husband all the time that when I die, he is to throw a party to celebrate me, not a funeral to mourn me. I think I’ll show him this – it could help with his plans ;)ReplyCancel

Stitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe {Cricut Explore Print}

Confession: I cheated on my beloved Silhouette Cameo (gasp! I know!). When I first heard about the new Cricut Explore, I  brushed it off like “Oh, it’s just another Cricut machine. No thanks.” But then I saw all the things it could cut. Wood? Yep. Leather? Yep. Foam? Yep. Felt? Yep. You pretty much had me […]

The time a Pit Bull stole my heart…

So, we got a new dog. A third dog. But then we had to give it back. I cried. A lot. The end. Although that pretty much sums it up, more details are probably in order. Let’s rewind to mid January. I was scrolling through Facebook when I came across the picture below. A pit […]

  • Ed - Wow! What a powerful story. I can feel your pain. Has this big guy (6’1 – 225 lbs) sitting with tears at my laptop. Bless your heart for bringing this baby into your lives. Sadly, not the happy ending that was hoped. Hopefully Hastings finds another loving family like yours.ReplyCancel

    • Nikki - Thank you so much for the kind words. Definitely not the ending we hoped for, but I’m hopeful he’ll nuzzle his way into someone else’s heart soon :)ReplyCancel

  • charlottel - Was Bentley fixed ? Wondering due to the fact that because Bently and Jagger/Hastings is… or will be, they both being male… the domaniate thing happening. Bently thought msybr Jagger/Hastings was his replacement, which was not the case at all.ReplyCancel

    • Nikki - No, Bentley was not fixed. We had an appointment to get him fixed right before we got Jagger. Unfortunately, from the pre-surgery bloodwork, we learned that Bentley has kidney failure. So, we were unable to go through with the surgery :(ReplyCancel

  • susan bloom - Sorry that you had to go through this trauma and sadness. I hope that Hastings finds a forever family that is as awesome as you guys are. I have tears in my eyes just reading this story, I can imagine how you feel.ReplyCancel

    • Nikki - Thanks Susan for your kind words. I wish so badly that it would have worked out, but maybe he’s meant to touch another person’s life. He definitely touched ours in the short time we had him.ReplyCancel

  • Julie - I cried through your whole post because it’s my story, too. I fostered and then adopted a precious pit mix named Poppy from a local county animal services shelter, and everything was great for about two months, until my mastiff (adopted from AAU) decided she was done with Poppy. We’ve had 3 fights (the last left Poppy with 12 sutures and 3 drains) and my consults with 3 vets, 2 trainers, and 1 certified behaviorist determined that the fights won’t stop
and Poppy likely would not survive a 4th. I’ve kept them 100% separated for a month now and am trying desperately to find her a new home. I can’t return her to the shelter. So… Boy, do I understand how hard it is to love a pup and let him/her go even though it isn’t the pup’s fault at all. :(ReplyCancel

Kitchen Plate Wall

Also known as, “It’s okay to change an entire wall if you don’t love it.” At least that’s what I’m telling myself. Just go with it. A little back story… this wall in our kitchen has been blank for a few years (since we moved in). I was always on the lookout for something to […]

Some Rockin’ New Kitchen Art

A few weeks before Christmas, I picked up three of these agate slice ornaments from West Elm (sadly now sold out). They were $8 each, which is more than I would normally pay for ornaments, but I purchased them with the intent of giving them new life after the Christmas tree came down. Embarrassing confession: Our tree is […]

Sasquatch Hunting Kit

Now that Christmas is over and the lucky recipient has received his gift, I can now share it with the interwebs (and you!). We have a friend that is OBSESSED with finding Bigfoot/Sasquatch. Sidenote: Is it Bigfoot or Sasquatch or Squatch? Someone hunt him down and ask him what he prefers. When brainstorming gift ideas, […]

Top Five Posts of 2013

So here we are. That weird week between Christmas and New Years. I’m one of the lucky ones working this week, but judging by the lack of traffic on my way in, most people are still at home in their PJ’s. Probably drinking coffee and watching Elf. It’s cool though. These fluorescent lights make my […]

DIY Mantel + Fire

What do you do when you have no fireplace (and no mantel)? Where do you hang the stockings? The stockings were hung by the chimney with care. It says it right there in the story. You can’t argue with the night before Christmas. The fastest way to get on Santa’s bad side is to argue […]

Christmas in the House

It’s safe to say that Christmas is my favorite time of year. Some people say it’s the most wonderful time of the year. Buddy the elf says “Christmas is the greatest day in the whole wide world.” However you slice it, Christmas is pretty freakin awesome. I love getting all the decorations out, adding new […]
